This profile portrait of Charles Dickens is a quarter plate daguerreotype captured by John Jabez Edwin Mayall at his 224 Regent Street studio in London around 1853-1855. This is a rare image of Dickens with a moustache that he sported for few years before favouring the “doorknocker” beard he was well known for. This daguerreotype is mounted as an oval within a gilt mount within a morocco case, and features the photographer’s studio stamp credit on the back: 'Mayall 224 Regent St. & 433 West Strand London'.
