- Dickens was an enormous fan of the theatre and Shakespeare's work. Both his magazines, Household Words and All the Year Round, are quotes from Shakespeare's plays. He also performed The Merry Wives of Windsor with his amateur theatre troupe. He enjoyed referencing a scene in Henry IV, Part I, where Falstaff plans to meet at "Gadshill" with Prince Hal, as his own home in Kent was called Gad's Hill Place.
