- Charles Dickens's copy of 'Robinson Crusoe'
- This book 'Robinson Crusoe' by Daniel Defoe was owned by Dickens and contains the Charles Dickens bookplate, as well as a 'Gad's Hill Library' bookplate. This book was a favourite of Charles Dickens in his youth, and he probably read a cheap re-print version. He often referred to the story in his writings, most famously it is the is the favourite story of the young Ebineezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. Due to the date of the book, there is a good chance he owned it when he lived at 48 Doughty Street.
