- Brief description
- John Jasper's Secret: Sequel to Charles Dickens's Mystery of Edwin Drood, 1901
- Label
- At the time John Jasper's Secret was published, people assumed that author Wilkie Collins (Dickens's friend) and Charles Jnr. (Dickens's son) had ‘completed’ Charles’s final, unfinished work The Mystery of Edwin Drood. This copy even has Wilkie's portrait on the spine. Wilkie had said he "positively refused" to write an ending to Drood, but the rumour persisted. In reality it was written by Henry Morford. Charles Jnr. (known as "Charley") did in fact attempt to finish Drood, co-writing a play with Joseph Hatton which was never performed.
