Brief description
The Mystery of Edwin Drood Complete (by the Spirit Pen of Charles Dickens Through a Medium), 1873
Label
Dickens's death in 1870 left his last novel unfinished. Many attempted to finish it - in 1873 Vermont resident Thomas Power James claimed Dickens's ghost dictated the story to him from beyond the grave (you could say it was ghostwritten). It even has a preface by Dickens from the afterlife. Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes's creator, read it. He strongly believed in ghosts but thought it did not meet Dickens's usual quality - it was "Dickens gone flat".
