- Brief description
- Scenes from the life of Nickleby Married
- Label
- Dickens's early stories were often plagiarised. Knock-off stories with slightly-changed titles were common and so were unlicensed theatre adaptations and sequels to stories. This 1840 'sequel' acknowledges Dickens's original 1838 story Nicholas Nickleby and states its desire to "avoid a servile imitation". It was written by "Guess" and illustrated by "Quiz", a play on Dickens's nickname "Boz" and his illustrator Hablot Knight Browne, better known as "Phiz".
