Brief description
The Sketch-book by Bos, c.1839
Label
Edward Lloyd was a London publisher famous for his 'penny dreadfuls' (cheap, popular stories of adventure or horror for the working class) including 'Sweeney Todd'. Thomas Peckett Prest worked for Lloyd writing plagiarised copies of Dickens's stories. Prest largely summarised Dickens's plots and impersonated his writing style and did so under the pseudonym "Bos", which was a copy of Dickens's pseudonym "Boz". Prest's titles also copied Dickens's, for example, The Sketch-book here taking off Sketches by Boz.
