- Brief description
- Dolby and Father
- Label
- Dickens's early stories were often plagiarised. Knock-off stories with slightly-changed titles were common, such as Oliver Twiss by "Bos" (a play on Dickens's own nickname "Boz"). This plagiarism of Dombey and Son radically departs from Dickens's plot. It is set in America and has the character of 'Dolby' read Dickens's A Christmas Carol and make reference to Dickens's visit to the USA in 1868, the same year this book was written. The anonymous author also occasionally muses on national identity and being American. The American Civil War had finished only three years prior.
