- Brief description
- Mister Humfries' Clock by T. P. Prest, 1830s
- Label
- Edward Lloyd was a publisher famous for his 'penny dreadfuls' (cheap stories of adventure or horror) including 'Sweeney Todd'. Thomas Peckett Prest worked for Lloyd writing imitations of Dickens's stories. Later Dickens stories were plagiarised far less than his early works as he developed as an author, writing complex, interconnected plots rather than 'episodic' scenes. These complicated stories proved harder to copy and plagiarisers transitioned to writing original stories. Mister Humfries' Clock was Prest's last Dickens plagiarism.
