- A prompt-book is a copy of the script with all the cues for all actors and technical staff, used by the stage manager to manage the overall performance. This copy belonged to Dickens. In 1850 he formed the Guild of Literature and Art, an acting troupe, to raise money for struggling artists through fundraising theatre performances. Used Up was a 70-minute farce written by Irish playwright Dion Boucicault. It was performed by Dickens and the Guild only four times. Dickens played 'Sir Charles Coldstream' and there is a painting of him as this character in the collection.
