- Charles Dickens's acting copy of 'Animal Magnetism' playscript

- A prompt-book is a copy of the script with all the cues for all actors and technical staff, used by the stage manager to manage the overall performance. This copy belonged to Dickens but some notes are by an actor named Thomas Coe. Animal Magnetism, written by Elizabeth Inchbald in the 1780s, parodied 'mesmerism' or 'animal magnetism' which believed in an invisible force or 'mesmeric fluid' all living things possessed, including animals and vegetables. The play, and Dickens, poke fun at this belief, however Dickens did actually believe in mesmerism, but he believed it came from human will power.
