Label: Dickens's death in 1870 left his last novel, Edwin Drood, unfinished. Many have since speculated the disappeared Drood was murdered by his uncle, John Jasper. On 7 January 1914 the Dickens Fellowship staged a 'trial' of Jasper at King's Hall in Covent Garden. The trial was a media sensation: fifty journalists attended (dressed in period clothing) and both national newspapers such as The Times and Daily Mail covered it, as did local newspapers from Aberdeen's Evening Gazette to Brighton's The Argus.
