- Dickens's death in 1870 left his last novel, Edwin Drood, unfinished. Many have since speculated what happened to Drood, who mysteriously disappears in the story, with many presuming he was murdered by his uncle, John Jasper. On 7 January 1914 the Dickens Fellowship staged a 'trial' of Jasper at King's Hall in Covent Garden. King's Hall (43 King Street) was the premises of the National Sporting Club, home of modern boxing and its universally accepted 'Queensberry Rules'.
