- Brief description
- Bentley's Miscellany, Volume II
- Label
- After his success with his first novel, The Pickwick Papers, Dickens was invited by publisher Richard Bentley to come edit his new monthly literary magazine, Bentley's Miscellany. Dickens was the editor from 1836 to 1839, during which time he published Oliver Twist in monthly parts in the magazine. Dickens quickly fell out with Bentley over creative control and pay. The publishing information on the front page notes Bentley's office was on New Burlington Street, and Dickens sometimes called him the 'Burlington Street Brigand'.
