Brief description: Scrapbook of the Trial of John Jasper, The Dickens Fellowship, 1914
Label: Dickens's death in 1870 left his last novel, Edwin Drood unfinished. Many speculated the disappeared Drood was murdered by his uncle, John Jasper, but Dickens left few clues behind. On 7 January 1914 the Dickens Fellowship staged a 'trial' of Jasper at King's Hall in Covent Garden with a cast of leading literary figures of the day to national acclaim. On 29 April the Fellowship branch in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania held their own mock trial. This scrapbook was compiled by B. W. Matz, the first editor of The Dickensian journal and cast-member in the Covent Garden trial.
