William Linton was a landscape artist and author who published several books of his sketches. This book, published in 1862, discusses archaeological monuments from Stonehenge to the Egyptian pyramids and speculates on the mechanical skill of early humans. It was owned by Dickens and contains an inscription from Linton. (Linton should not be confused with William James Linton, the engraver who worked on A Christmas Carol and The Chimes.)
