Brief description
Miniature book, 'Weihnachtslied in Prosa' (Christmas Carol) in German/Austrian, undated
Label
This German translation of A Christmas Carol was published in Vienna in 1926. The text is written in 'Fraktur', a traditional calligraphic font which remained popular in German-speaking countries until it was banned by the Nazis. The book contains illustrations by Paula Jordan, an artist who worked in Leipzig who was well-known for her designs of church windows and wall paintings. These illustrations would have been made only shortly after she had her breakthrough illustrating the children's book Doktor Faustus in 1924 when she was 28.
