Brief description: Letter, from Charles Dickens to G. W. Roberts, 27 January 1842
Label: During his trip to America in 1842 with his wife Catherine, Dickens wrote to George W Roberts, owner of the Boston Notion and Boston Daily Times newspapers. Roberts had evidently asked Dickens to write something to publish in his newspapers, but Dickens turns him down. This letter was actually written by George Washington Putnam, who was Dickens's secretary during his America trip. Dickens has signed it himself with his characteristic flourish.

Dear Sir,
I thank you for your consideration. I shall be at leisure, and glad to see you, at 3 o clock tommorrow [sic]. In the matter of business I should add, perhaps, at once that I have no intention of writing while I remain in America, except once for the Knickerbocker; and that I leave all publishing arrangements to my publishers in London.
