Tom Tiddler's Ground was the final joint story between Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins to appear in Dickens's weekly magazine All the Year Round before Wilkie left the staff after receiving an offer for his next novel. Charles took Wilkie's resignation amicably, writing "I am very sorry that we part company (though only in a literary sense)."
