- Letter from Charles Dickens to Thomas Beard, 5 February 1846

- In this letter, Dickens writes to one of his oldest and closest friends, Thomas Beard. The two men had started their careers as journalists for The Morning Chronicle and by now Beard worked for The Morning Herald whilst Dickens had recently launched his own newspaper, The Daily News. Due to their friendship, the two newspapers shared resources (particularly international agents) and information in what Dickens called an 'alliance'. In this letter Dickens makes light of the fact both newspapers had printed incorrect information due to a shared foreign correspondent not getting information to them in time.
