Brief description: Letter, from Charles Dickens to Miss Margaret Gillies, 21 July 1843
Label: Margaret Gillies was a social campaigner, advocate of women's rights, and artist specialising in watercolours and miniature portraits. In 1843 she painted a portrait of Dickens which was later lost for a century before emerging in a house sale in South Africa in 2017. In this short note, Dickens tells Gillies he will visit her studio the following week for a sitting, presumably one of many sittings which produced the famous 'lost portrait'.
