Catherine is also keen to stress that unlike other years, the Dickenses will not be hosting a party this year. The letter is likely dated to 1851, 1852 or 1856 or 1857.

- Dear Mr. Beard,
Will you dine with us on the 31st? We shall be so glad if you will. We are going to have only one or two friends to dinner, & no party in the evening, but if your sisters would think it worth their while, (and have no other engagement) to join us in the evening, will you tell them with my love, how happy we shall be to see them all, and we will try to bring in the New Year merrily.
