- Brief description
- Letter from Wilkie Collins to Eliza Forster, 28 December 1870
- Label
- Both Wilkie and Forster were close friends of Dickens, although Forster was evidently jealous of Wilkie's closeness with Dickens. Nonetheless it seems the two men kept in touch after Dickens's death in June 1870, as Wilkie accepts the invitation of Forster's wife Eliza to attend a party in January 1871. Forster would minimise Wilkie's presence in his biography of Dickens, and Wilkie would criticise the biography as "The Life of John Forster, with notices of Dickens".
