- Authentication card for silver match box and cigar cutter owned by Charles Dickens

- Georgina Hogarth was Dickens's sister-in-law, confidant, and housekeeper. Even after Dickens separated from Georgina's sister Catherine, she continued to live with and support Dickens. After his death in 1870, Georgina was one of two executors of Dickens's will and oversaw the distribution and sale of his possessions. Later in life Georgina had money troubles and sold off her remaining collection of Dickens's possessions. She wrote small notes guaranteeing items were genuine and explaining their significance to Dickens's life. This card was for a monogrammed silver holder for short matches, known as 'Vestas', which also served as a cigar cutter. The other item was an oval shaped match box that Hogarth possibly gifted to Dickens.

- I certify that this Silver Match Box and Cigar Cutter "combined" was always used by my Brother in law Charles Dickens when travelling on his last visit to America and at Gad's Hill until the time and day of his death there on the 9th June 1870, and that since then it has always been in my possession.
