- Georgina Hogarth was Dickens's sister-in-law, confidant, and housekeeper. Even after Dickens separated from Georgina's sister Catherine, she continued to live with and support Dickens. After his death in 1870, Georgina was one of two executors of Dickens's will and oversaw the distribution and sale of his possessions. Later in life Georgina had money troubles and sold off her remaining collection of Dickens's possessions. She wrote small notes guaranteeing items were genuine and explaining their significance to Dickens's life.

- I certify that this Salt Cellar was always used by my Brother-in law Charles Dickens in the dining-room at Gad's Hill from the time of his going there to live until the day of his death, 9th June 1870, and that it has since been used by me and is my possession.
