Brief description
Letter from John Dickens to John Towne Danson, 14 January 1846
Label
Dickens had a complex relationship with his father. John relied on Dickens to repay his many debts. Nonetheless when Dickens planned to launch a new newspaper, The Daily News, he hired John to manager the paper's reporters, as John had been a journalist himself. John seemed to take the role seriously. Here he writes to John Towne Danson, one of the newspaper's reporters, that Dickens wishes to speak to Danson, and will be at the Athenaeum club. This letter was sent on 14 January 1846, one week before the paper's launch.
