- Catherine, Dickens's wife, writes to family friend Helen Tagart in June 1844. She references the family moving house - Catherine and Dickens had left their home, Devonshire Terrace, to travel through France and Italy for a year until the summer of 1845. They would leave England in July 1844, a month after this letter. Dickens later wrote Pictures from Italy as an account of the family's travels.

- Dear Mrs Tagart
Charles has desired me to write to you, as he fears Mr Tagart must have thought him very neglectful in not answering his very kind note, he received some time since, but he has been in a constant bustle for the last fortnight, as we very unexpectedly let our house to a widow lady, who has most fortunately taken it for the whole period of our intended absence, but as we had only a few days' warning, we had as you may imagine enough to do. Will you explain this to Mr Tagart and with both our kind regards to yourself and your (?uncle), believe me,
