Brief description
Invitation to a Twelfth Night party sent by Catherine Dickens on behalf of her three eldest children, 27 December
Label
Catherine, Dickens's wife, wrote this party invitation in the 1850s to Miss Margaret Lucy and Mr William Henry Tagart, children of Edward Tagart, a Unitarian minister whose church Dickens attended. She wrote it on behalf of her three eldest children - Charles Jr (Charley), Mary (Mamie) and Catherine (Katey) - who were in their teens at the time. The invitation was sent from Tavistock House for Charley's birthday and Twelfth Night party. Tavistock House was the last home the Dickenses had in London together before Dickens moved to Kent after their separation in 1858.
