Benjamin Eastly, a Bricklayer and "Retailer of Beer" from St. Luke's, Chelsea, was sent to Marshalsea Prison in 1833 for outstanding debts, nine years after Dickens's father John did the same. These documents show the exhaustive detail enumerating Eastly's debts, credit, and expenditures. Most of his debts were for building materials he had not paid for, but one was for medicine sold by the very Dickensian "Dr. George Rawbone".
