- Watercolour illustration 'The Happy Pair' for 'Our Mutual Friend' by Marcus Stone
- Marcus Stone was the son of Dickens's friend and illustrator Frank Stone. When Frank died suddenly in 1859, Dickens treated Marcus like a son, welcomed him into his home, and hired him as an illustrator for Our Mutual Friend. Dickens allowed Marcus a large amount of freedom in selecting which scenes to illustrate. F G Kitton, an illustrator and founding member of the Dickens Fellowship, said "in no instance did the novelist question the proprierty of his (Marcus's) selection".
