- Silver monogrammed matchbox and cigar cutter owned by Charles Dickens

- This small silver case bearing Dickens's monogram was used for carrying 'vestas', or short matches, and it has a rough edge for lighting them. 'Vestas' were named after the Roman goddess of fire, whose priestesses were the Vestal Virgins. A small hole in the side would also have been used to cut cigars, which Dickens enjoyed smoking.
