Brief description
Porcelain Candle-Snuffer of Mr Micawber
Label
This decorative candle-snuffer of Mr. Micawber from David Copperfield was made in Taiwan for Franklin Porcelain of London and sold by the Dickens House Museum (the former name of the Charles Dickens Museum). It is part of a collection of nine Dickens-themed snuffers including Scrooge, Mr. Micawber, and Fagin. Candle-snuffers would have been placed over the flame of a candle like a lid to 'snuff' or extinguish the flame. They show the extent of Dickens's legacy and the popularity of his characters.
