This painting of Catherine Dickens was painted by the artist Daniel Maclise around 1847. Catherine is pictured in profile, stitching an overmantel and wearing her engagement ring. The painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1848 and is one of two paintings of Catherine by Maclise in the Museum's collection.

Physical description

Carved gilt frame. Oil paint on canvas laid down on plywood board. The painting shows Catherine Dickens, wearing her wedding ring, sitting stitching an overmantel, with a vase of flowers set on a table next to her.
