Brief description
Reproduction poster for 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood Musical' on Broadway, 1985
Label
Dickens's death in 1870 left his last novel, Edwin Drood, unfinished. Many attempted to complete it over the following century and a half, leading to multiple proposed endings to the mystery. In 1985 this Broadway musical adaptation took this tradition to heart, being the first Broadway musical with multiple endings. Each night the audience would vote in the interval to determine the ending. It won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
