Brief description
Playbill for 'Nicholas Nickleby or Doings at Do-The-Boys Hall!', Theatre Royal Adelphi, 26 November 1838
Label
This play was adapted by Edward Stirling before “Nicholas Nickleby” was even halfway through its serialised publication – the result is an entirely different ending from Dickens’s story. Stirling was the most prolific adaptor of Dickens’s works at the time. Dickens himself saw the play twice and did not seem to mind Stirling’s adaptions as much as other playwrights (like Moncrieff at the New Strand Theatre).
