Label
Mary Scott Hogarth was the youngest sister of Catherine, Dickens's wife. Mary lived with the Dickenses after their marriage in 1836, supporting and learning from Catherine about housekeeping and raising children. On 7 May 1837, at age 17, she suddenly collapsed and died soon after. The Dickenses were deeply shocked and saddened by her death. Dickens's mother-in-law, Georgina, gave Dickens this locket containing a lock of Mary's hair later that year.
