- Portrait of Kate Perugini by Carlo Perugini, 1870s
- Kate Perugini was the second daughter of Charles and Catherine Dickens. Her second husband, Carlo Perugini, painted this portrait after their marriage in 1874. Kate's first husband, Charles Collins, died of cancer in 1873. Kate, Collins, and Carlo were all accomplished painters (Kate exhibited at the Royal Academy) and both Collins and Carlo were associated with the Pre-Raphaelites, an movement that championed artistic freedom, realism, and natural symbolism. One common symbol was specific flowers having specific meanings: the pink roses here represent new love and the pale blue flowers (forget-me-nots) symbolise true love and fidelity.
