Partly because of his enormous fame and relatability, but also because of the reach of the British Empire and the English language it imposed across the globe, Dickens's stories are popular world-wide and have been translated into many languages. Dickens was one of the first English novelists translated into Chinese and Arabic, and his popularity with Karl Marx ensured his works were translated throughout the Soviet Union as well.
